I recently wrote about inferiority and comparing yourself with others.
Having felt inferior a bit lately, I thought it was post-worthy to talk about what I encountered, how I dealt with it and why it matters.
If I could have you walk away with one thing from reading my blog, it would be this:
Find encouragement that leads you to take action and improve your daily life in small ways.
But what does that mean?
Simply this: set small goals and change yourself towards who you want to be.
You can’t just say words: you need action to match them.
Facebook Comparisons: A Taste of Everyday Inferiority
Yep, we all do them. It’s natural to try to compare yourself to those around you.
Someone on my facebook friend list posted about having 45,000 monthly views on Pinterest.
I have 0. Mostly, because I haven’t set up my Pinterest account, but that didn’t stop me from thinking these thoughts:
Will I ever have 45,000 users on my blog?
I’m at 1,500 — that’s really far away…
Silly, right? I haven’t even started?!!
So, I stopped freaking out and thought for a minute:
How long has this friend been doing this?
3 years – as a full-time job.
And how long have you been doing this, Ed?
1 month — in your free time not working your full-time job.
And, I remembered to be kind to myself.
I took my own advice and considered:
What do I admire about this person?
That’s a really cool amount of traffic! I hope to inspire and encourage that many people some day
What concrete steps can I do to get there?
I set a simple goal for myself to set up 3 boards on pinterest (Values, Hope, and Habits) by this time next week.
One of my personal values is to have no difference between what I say and what I do.
This has been a key tenet of mine for all of my adult life. It helps you build strong relationships and find other people that believe as you believe.
So, I thought this example of me working through my inferiority might help 🙂
